#25 The Present... Where the Magic Happens
Dec 16, 2021Have you ever had a session with your horse that you wish would last forever?
Maybe something you'd been trying to learn finally clicked Or your horse seemed to know what you wanted before you even asked. You could feel the harmony in your bones?
Then you go out the next day and the next session you have is... well... not at all like the harmonious one you'd just had? What's wrong with your horse? Was it something in the water? Welcome to the rollercoaster ride!
I've experienced this phenomena in my own journey and have heard it voiced countless times from students and colleagues. This week, I've been pondering why this happens and have some thoughts to share with you.
By the way- once our Facebook Group is up and running (my goal is to have it ready to roll out for New Year's 2022) this is the kind of thing I'd love to have a discussion about. Often people (maybe you) reply to these emails with the coolest observations and thoughts- I'd love to have everyone able to read and reply to these observations... so stay tuned. AND there will be a FB alternative that I'll be inviting folks to try out with me that will happen a bit later in 2022- so stay tuned on that one too...
Ok... now... where was I?
I believe the reason this Jekyll and Hyde experience can happen is all in our expectations. We're heading out for a session with our horse and are expecting it to feel just like it did in the AWESOME-RECORD-IN-THE-HISTORY-BOOKS session. We are no longer present and observing our horse like we were before. We're expecting their responses to be like they were the other day instead of being aware of what they are now.
This can cause disappointment on our part AND it causes our feel and timing to be off because feel requires us to be observing and responding to what IS not what WAS.
Each time we start a session with our horse can we come to it anew? Curious about what we'll learn together. Observant of where their mind is, what their responses are.
Being in the present moment with the horse that shows up is where the magic happens.
I hope your next session with your horse is filled with learning and maybe even some magic moments.
